SOCIALLY HECTIC & TECH DEPENDENT

MODERN DEPORTMENT | CITY FRAZZLED | LIFESTYLE BALANCE

How compelled are you to take out your cell phone and ‘check’ it every time you are waiting in line, passing a commute, or (pardon me) sitting on the toilet?  Cyber Psychologist Mary Aiken estimates phone checkers are at it 1.500 times a week.   UK researchers estimate internet usage adds up to more than a day every week.

There is a modern day compulsion to be ‘checking’ constantly.   It has overtaken our ability to sit still and be content in waiting.  This compulsion can send our minds into overdrive and an addictive tendency that will have you pressing your passcode with our reason whenever you sense a pause.

It all adds up.  These mini sessions plus the longer seated variety are totaling around 23 hours of our week according to a recent study.  Whereby respondents were found to spend an average of 6.8hrs each week using Facebook, 5 hours on YouTube, and 4.2hrs on Twitter.  70% of Instagram users log in each and every day to see whats new.   62% said they intended to reduce their usage, ideally spending more time face to face with real people.

So what is balance?  What is too much?  What renders you 'socially hectic' or 'tech dependent'?  Is there a way back when your friends are worse than you are?  What is the damage?  What's the impression it leaves?
