modern gluttony in an age of wellness
Hey you with the green juice and the Soul Cycle appointment and those early onset downcast jowls and repetitive scrolling headaches... ‘wellness’ takes work. We know that. We also know how much its worth to us because a value of $3.7 trillion was placed on the ‘global wellness economy’ in 2015 alone.
In 2017 we are yet more self-disciplined and equilibrium striven, but for all that self-awareness and self-control there is a gaping great lack of awareness slipping by in what is a parallel gluttony of digital indulgence.
Regular repetition leads to habitual behavior. The repetition of actions within a consistent context can become automatic and compulsory when presented with the reappearance of those contextual clues. Traditionally this saves the brain for better things - we turn off lights, turn off the tap, flush the toilet and brush our teeth, pull up our pants… But thanks to modern tech rituals and multi faceted apps tending to all aspects of our lives via one initial password on one device we are fast entering an age of compulsive phone checking.
